3D Animation Club
The VISST 3D Animation Club is for elementary school students in grades 5-8 with some basic experience in 3D modeling or animation software. Students will use Blender, a free 3D modeling and animation program, to learn fun and useful modeling and animation tools and techniques. Classes are structured based on what students want to learn. There will be lots of opportunities for students to practice, experiment and collaborate to create their own 3D animated movies with one-on-one attention from their experienced instructor.
Course Outline and Topics
Students will collectively decide on the direction and curriculum of the camp and share their goals for the term.
In each class students receive a tutorial on a particular topic and will have lots of time to apply what they learned in their own projects with guidance from the instructor.
Topics include bone rigging, weight painting, UV mapping, shader nodes, sculpt mode, boolean modifiers, physics systems, particles, animation tracks for games, 3D printing prep, and many more.
Program Requirements
Students should have some experience working with 3D modeling or animation software.
Each student must bring a laptop capable of running Blender and a mouse (trackpads are not recommended for 3D modeling).
Blender is not compatible with tablets or Chromebooks.
Please install Blender on your laptop prior to coming to the first class and make sure it launches without any errors.
