Admissions Criteria

We are looking for students who want to be challenged and who demonstrate the potential to meet those challenges. A strong applicant will also demonstrate that they understand what VISST is about and that they would really like to be a part of this unique school and community. As a STEM school, we are looking for students with an interest in STEM, but this does not have to be your only interest! On the contrary, we welcome students with a broad range of interests; a diverse student body will enrich the experience for everyone. You will find that VISST innovates, and employs amazing teachers, in all subject areas.

FAQs

  • No! Applicants should be at grade level in math and science; working above grade level is welcome but not required. What is important is that you enjoy, and are curious about, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Wherever you are starting, VISST will help you grow.

  • We do not require or expect extra preparation beyond standard B.C. elementary school math. If you would nonetheless like to seek extra inspiration, consider VISST's Math Club program for Grades 5-7 on our Camps & Workshops page. We are also able to recommend two extracurricular math preparation programs: Spirit of Math (Kindergarten and up) and Math Potentials (Grade 5 and up).

  • VISST’s program involves accelerated Math and Science. For students entering Grade 9-12 directly, we will work with you individually to make a plan so that your math and science education aligns well with the VISST academic trajectory. This may involve preparation or completing courses during the summer before you start.

  • Though most of our electives focus on STEM areas, we support the pursuit of non-STEM electives and can recommend programs to pursue other elective courses outside of VISST. For example, the Vancouver Learning Network (VLN) offers courses like Law Studies 12 online.

  • Currently, there is no application fee.

  • No, VISST does not have a mandatory school uniform. However, we do have optional VISST-branded clothes that you are welcome to purchase and wear to school or outside of school!
